12 Indian sailors rescued by joint venture of Indian Coast Guard and Pakistan MSA

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully rescued 12 crew members of the Indian ship MSV Al Piranpir, which sank in the North Arabian Sea on 04 December 2024. The rescue operation by both the countries, the Indian Coast Guard and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (MSA), observed a humanitarian approach.

Mechanized sailing ship (Dhowi) Al Piranpir, en route from Porbandar to Bandar Abbas, Iran, sank due to rough seas on the morning of 04 December. ICG’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) Mumbai received a call in this regard, which immediately alerted the ICG Regional Headquarters (North West) in Gandhinagar. The ICG ship was immediately diverted to the location informed to Sarthak. MRCC Pakistan was also contacted to alert sailors in the area and immediate assistance was provided by them.

ICGS, deployed for adequate patrolling in the forward area, reached the possible location at maximum speed and conducted a search operation. 12 crew members, who abandoned their ship and took refuge in a small boat. This courageous rescue operation demonstrates ICG’s capabilities and readiness to deal with maritime emergencies in the region.

The rescued crew members were examined by the medical team of ICGS Sarthak and found to be in good health. They are being sent back to Porbandar Harbor in Gujarat. The Indian Coast Guard has once again demonstrated its dedication towards protecting life at sea by living up to its slogan “Vayam Rakshaam”.
