8th Pay Commission: Before the new year 2025, the central government has given a big blow to 48 lakh employees and 65 lakh pensioners. The Central Government has once again clarified the position regarding the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. The Union Minister of State for Finance has said that at present no proposal is being considered regarding the 8th Pay Commission.

In fact, on Tuesday, MPs Javed Ali Khan and Ramji Lal Suman had asked the question whether the Center is considering making any major announcement related to the new pay commission in the Union Budget 2025-26? On this, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in the Rajya Sabha that there is no proposal pending before the government for the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission. Earlier in July, after the General Budget 2024-25, Union Finance Secretary TV Somanathan had said that there is still enough time for the formation of a new pay commission. Because the recommendations of the new pay commission will be implemented in 2026 and right now we are in 2024.

Why is the demand for implementing the 8th Pay Commission rising? Actually, usually a new pay commission is formed every ten years. The 7th Pay Commission was constituted in February 2014, but its recommendations were implemented from January 1, 2016, which will end on December 31, 2025. According to this, the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission on central employees, armed forces and state government personnel are proposed to be implemented from January 2026, in such a situation the employee organizations were hopeful that the central government would introduce new salaries in the budget 2025-26 to be presented in February. Can take decision regarding commission.

Till now many employee organizations have sent proposals

• It is noteworthy that in the last months, various employee organizations including the Employees’ Confederation, National Joint Consultative Machinery Council and the Indian Railway Technical Supervisors Association have written letters to the Central Government demanding the implementation of the Eighth Pay Commission.
• Indian Railway Technical Supervisors Association ‘IRTSA’ had urged Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman that the Central Government should constitute the Eighth Pay Commission without any delay.
• The Central Government Employees and Labor Confederation had written a letter to Prime Minister Modi earlier this year requesting that in the current circumstances, a new pay commission should be constituted without any delay.
• The Employees Forum also submitted a memorandum to Union Cabinet Secretary TV Somanathan, requesting him to expedite the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission.
• Recently, during the monsoon session, Rajya Sabha MPs Ramjilal Suman and Javed Ali Khan had raised questions in this regard. On this, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had said that at present there is no proposal before the Central Government for consideration of the 8th Finance Commission, the government has received only 2 memorandums, hence there is no idea about its formation.
