Indian star batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal played a strong inning of 161 runs in the first match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 played at Perth Stadium. Yashasvi, who returned to the pavilion without opening the account in the first innings, convinced everyone with his century in the second innings. However, more than this century, Yashasvi was in the news for his statement where he sledged Kangaroo fast bowler Mitchell Starc while batting in the second innings and taunted him about his speed. Here he said that he is bowling very slow.
Stark reacts to his sledging
Now the second Test of the five-match series between the two teams is about to start in Adelaide. Now Starc’s reaction has come a day before the start of the match, where he has talked about this matter. He said, ‘Actually I had not heard Yashasvi’s voice then. Yeah, I don’t tell people much at this point. Yes, I used to talk, but not anymore. He played that amazing flick shot. I bowled the next ball in the same manner, but then he defended it. So I told him where the flick shot was. Hearing this he laughed. We all know that he has been playing consistently and successfully for India for quite some time now. Yashasvi performed brilliantly in Perth’s second innings and took full advantage of the situation.
Praise for Alastair Cook
Former England captain Alastair Cook also praised Yashasvi for sledging Starc. He said that at the age of just 22, Jaiswal showed incredible patience and courage. Cook praised the mental strength of the young batsman. “I think at some point he might do that,” Cook said. But when he sledged Starc, he was not even on 100 runs. He did not make any big score. Even after this he was telling Starc that you were bowling slow.
I played against Starc: Cook
He further said, ‘I have faced Starc and he is definitely not a slow bowler. Even if he bowls slow, I don’t bother him. But he showed how confident he is. I think after 15 Test matches at the top of the order, he has scored more runs than any Indian player. The most difficult thing is where he bats. You may not believe what I say. But his statistics show what a great player he is.
