Martial law was imposed in South Korea on Tuesday night and chaos spread throughout the country. After about five-six hours this martial law was also cancelled. The implementation and repeal of this law by the President has created a feeling of dissatisfaction and anger in the entire country. It is noteworthy that this is the first time since 1980 that martial law has been implemented in South Korea in this manner.

According to sources, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has made it clear that this step has been taken due to the threat of anti-nationals and North Korea. At the same time, opposition parties and political analysts are considering the President’s own political difficulties as the reason for this. It is discussed in the sources that due to the controversies and difficulties of the President’s wife, these steps were taken to suppress the opposition but the President was not successful in this. Military helicopters landed on the roof of South Korea’s National Assembly, and troops were deployed inside and outside the parliament. The MPs were scared.

Thousands of people gathered outside the Parliament and started protesting against this action of the President. The opposition rejected the President’s decision in an immediate vote in Parliament, forcing the President to withdraw martial law. Now demands are being raised in the Parliament that the President should be impeached or steps should be taken to force him to resign voluntarily.

First lady Kim Kyun is being considered the center of controversy

People are discussing that the first lady of South Korea, Kim Kyon, is a businesswoman. Kim Keough tried her hand at art and her own business at a very young age. He said that his company works in the art industry. He has exhibited and sold works by many major artists such as Giacometti, Marc Chagall and Mark Rothko in South Korea. She married Yoon Suk Yeol in 2021. After this he remained busy in business and politics. In May 2022, Eun Suk became President of South Korea and Kim Kyon became First Lady. Along with this, Kim also talked about banning the consumption of dog meat in South Korea. He advocated that this ban was necessary to protect the animals. Because of this, people protested on a large scale against Kim.

Martial law was brought in to suppress allegations of corruption.

Political experts believe that Yun might have dared to impose martial law only to suppress the scandals, controversies and corruption committed by Kim Kyun in the past two years. Kim was accused of manipulating shares of an import company, Deutsche Motors. This created a big controversy. At the time, the President publicly apologized and said that he and his wife were not involved. At that time, a bill was introduced in Parliament to take action against Kim, but Yun used his veto to cancel it. Apart from this, political circumstances are also going against Yun. To end all this, Yun took the step of imposing martial law. It is noteworthy that the special bill was to be discussed in the Parliament on December 10. This bill was brought by the opposition. It is said that while suppressing all this, Yun finally tried to save the chair by dying.

Also accused of stealing PhD thesis

Some time ago, a group of 16 professors accused Kim Keon of plagiarizing their PhD thesis at Kookmin University. The government and the university investigated this case for about eight months and Kim was acquitted. On the other hand, professors and students are not ready to accept this cliché. Apart from this, Kim had also put pressure on Yun in the parliamentary by-elections to be held in 2022. This pressure was created for the selection of People’s Power Party candidates.

Also involved in Kim’s Dior bag scandal

According to political experts, the President’s political career is in danger because of Kim Kyun. In South Korea, he is known as Kim Keon Hee Risk. It means a person who harms the political reputation of her husband. In 2022, a newspaper had claimed that Kim Keon had received a Dior bag worth 300,000 won i.e. about Rs 1.80 lakh. A video clip regarding this was also widely circulated. This controversy was raised at the international level. According to South Korea’s anti-corruption law, officials or their spouses in public life may never accept gifts worth more than $750. Kim Keon has been accused of violating this law.
