He has written a letter to Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal and announced his retirement from politics citing his increasing age. In the letter he wrote, ‘Now I want to stay away from electoral politics due to age, but will continue to serve the party.’

In a letter to Kejriwal, Ram Niwas Goyal wrote, ‘I would like to humbly inform you that for the last 10 years, I have efficiently performed my duties as MLA and Speaker of Shahdara Assembly. You have always given me a lot of respect for which I will always be grateful to you. The party and all the MLAs also gave me a lot of respect, for this I express my gratitude to everyone. Because of my age I want to stay away from electoral politics. I assure you that I will continue to serve the Aam Aadmi Party with all my heart, mind and wealth. Whatever responsibility you give me, I will try to fulfill it.

It is noteworthy that Ramniwas Goyal has been in politics for a long time. In 1993, he was elected MLA from Shahdara seat on BJP ticket. Later, when Aam Aadmi Party came into existence, he joined it. After this, he won consecutively in the last two elections and then became the Speaker of the Assembly.
