West Champaran (Bettiah): After the action of Bihar’s Bettiah SP Shaurya Suman, there is a stir among the police station incharges. Bettiah SP has suspended three police station chiefs within eight days. Taking departmental action against all, they have been sent to Bettiah Police Headquarters Police Centre.
Case no. 1: Bettiah SP Shaurya Suman suspended Inarwa police station incharge Basant Kumar with immediate effect on 26 November 2024. He was sent to Bettiah Headquarters Police Centre.
What was the allegation? Inarwa police station incharge Basant Kumar was accused of illegally abandoning a tractor laden with sand after seizing it. After investigation by the sub-divisional police officer, the role of the police station chief was found suspicious. After which Bettiah SP took this action.
Case no. 2: The second case is of Bhangaha police station. Where police sub-inspector (Bhangaha police station in-charge) Rahul Prasad Manjhi was suspended with immediate effect from December 3. During the period of suspension, Rahul Manjhi has been sent to Bettiah Headquarters Police Centre.
Was there an allegation? : The case of Rahul Prasad Manjhi’s nexus with illegal animal smugglers and the conduct and working style of the police station chief came to light. When it was investigated it was found to be true. After which, taking immediate action, Bhangha police station incharge Rahul Prasad Manjhi was suspended.
Case no. 3: The third case is related to Sirsia police station. Where Sirsia police station incharge Madan Kumar Manjhi was suspended on 3 December. Sirsia police station chief has been suspended with immediate effect and has been transferred to the headquarters police center for the period of suspension.
What was the allegation? : Case number 80/24 was registered in Sirsia police station. Despite almost 60 days having passed since the incident was reported, neither the dead body was identified nor any effort was made by Police Station Head Sirsia (researcher) to trace the accused.
