New Delhi: Global arms production has increased to $632 billion in the year 2023. There has been an increase of 4.2 percent compared to 2022. Stockholm-based International Peace Research Institute (IPRI) has said. Wars and conflicts taking place at various places are the reason for this. Even this research institute has said this. Special: Ukraine-war, Israel-Hamas war and increasing tension in the Indo-Pacific region are the main reasons.
This report of ‘SIPRI’ further states that America is the largest producer of arms in the world. It has made weapons worth Rs 317 billion in 2023. ‘SIPRI’ has revealed the names of 100 arms manufacturing companies. Out of which 41 companies are in America alone.
Out of 100 companies listed by ‘SIPRI’, 50 companies manufacture arms worth Rs 317 billion.
America’s Lockheed-Martin and Raytheon companies have benefited the most from these arms manufacturing companies. The reason for this is the large quantity of weapons sent to Ukraine and the Middle East. It is being told that the organization says that due to Ukraine war, America and its ‘NATO’ allies are buying more and more weapons. However, the ever-growing demand for weapons is being hampered by supply chain disruptions and a shortage of skilled workers.
China has also made great progress in arms production. Out of the 100 companies mentioned in the list, 9 companies are in that list. Its arms production was recorded at $103 billion (in 2023). Whereas only three Indian companies Hindustan Aeronautics, Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics (three listed companies) combined produced arms worth only $6.7 billion in 2022. Which is one third of China. The Government of India has launched the campaign of ‘Make-in-India’. Therefore, the pace of its weapons production is likely to increase.
The report reiterates that conflicts are increasing globally and continue to exist even in smaller countries. Therefore the global production rate is increasing by leaps and bounds.
