Nainital, 2 December (HS). After hearing the contempt petition filed for non-compliance of the earlier order given in the road widening case, the High Court has issued a notice of contempt to the Urban Development Secretary and the District Magistrate Almora and directed them to file their reply by December 30. The case was heard before a single bench of Justice Alok Kumar Verma. According to the case, Almora MLA Manoj Tiwari had filed a contempt petition in the High Court and said that keeping in view the interest of the public, he had filed a PIL in the High Court and said that the work of repair and widening of the road from NTD of Almora to Dharki Tuni should be done. Which is very necessary, because there are many schools on this road.
Due to the poor condition and narrowness of the road, many school children have been getting injured and due to jam on the road, school children are not able to reach school on time. While hearing the PIL in the month of June, the division bench had directed the government to investigate it and inform the court. But till now the government has not presented its answer in the court. On the hearing, Municipal Council Almora informed the court that following the order of the court, the municipality sent the approval to Secretary Urban Development and District Magistrate Almora to approve the budget of Rs 74.48 lakh for the repair and widening of the road, but till now The budget was not received nor was the court order complied with.
