Kolkata, 02 December (HS). Calcutta High Court has granted bail to Ayan Sheel, accused in the appointment scam in West Bengal. Justice Shubhra Ghosh’s court on Monday granted bail to Ayan on a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh. However, they will have to submit their passport to the court. On this condition, Ayan has got bail in the ED (Enforcement Directorate) case.

Ayan Sheel was arrested by ED on 20 March 2023. He is said to be close to former Trinamool Congress leader Shantanu Banerjee. ED had raided Ayan’s house, flat and office in Chunchura and recovered the list of job candidates and other important documents. Some of these documents were copies of answer sheets (OMR sheets).

CBI had also investigated this case and included Ayan’s name in its charge sheet. According to CBI, Ayan had provided jobs to many people through his two agents.

Despite getting bail from the High Court, Ayan Sheel will not be released from jail yet. Recently he was arrested by CBI in primary teacher appointment scam. CBI alleges that Ayan had collected Rs 1.67 crore from the candidates through his eight agents. He had sent this amount to Shantu Ganguly. After this, Shantu sent this list to Kuntal.

The trial against the accused involved in this scam is going on in a special court, and Ayan will have to remain in jail for the time being in this case.
