Lucknow, 2 December (HS). Potato will bring prosperity to the farmers of potato producing areas of the state. In fact, potatoes are also included in the vegetables and fruits which the Central Government has planned to export by sea as a pilot project. Since Uttar Pradesh is the largest potato producing state in the country. Here, double crop of potato is taken in many districts including Kannauj, Farrukhabad. In such a situation, the maximum benefit of this project will be given to the potato sowing farmers of Uttar Pradesh.
It is noteworthy that no vegetable can be imagined without potatoes. It is generally available throughout the year at a reasonable price, but due to high demand, its rise and fall make media headlines. Opening of cheaper route of export through sea will put an end to such headlines of boom and recession to a great extent.
Yogi government has been sensitive to the welfare of potato farmers from the beginning
Yogi government has been very sensitive towards the problems of potato farmers from the beginning. At the very beginning of Yogi 01, the Chief Minister had implemented the Market Intervention Scheme for the farmers affected by the recession. This had happened for the first time in the history of the state. Since then, the Yogi government has been continuously taking steps keeping in mind the interest of potato producing farmers. During the season, the government also provides better quality seeds of species suitable to the agricultural climate in every district at a fixed price.
Apart from CIP Center in Agra, Excellence Center in Hapur and Kushinagar.
With the help of the Central Government and the initiative of the Yogi Government, the International Potato Center (CIP) located in Peru (Lima) is opening in Agra. The construction of this center to be built on about 10 hectares of land will cost about Rs 120 crore. Apart from this, during the presentation of agricultural production sector at the beginning of his second term, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had given instructions regarding many schemes in the interest of potato farmers. It also included opening Centers of Excellence for Potato in Hapur and Kushinagar. Apart from this, issuing licenses for construction of cold storage in a transparent manner to increase storage capacity. Establishment of mega food parks and clusters for processing etc. was included. Work on all this is going on at a fast pace.
Benefits of opening these centers
State government spokesperson said that the opening of these international and national level centers will benefit the farmers of Uttar Pradesh, being the most productive state. Neighboring states and other potato producing countries in South Asia will also benefit. The establishment of CIP Agra will benefit potato-belt states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal as well as countries in South Asia.
Farmers will be able to get better quality potato seeds from this centre. Due to this, farmers will get the benefit of improved crop production and quality in the form of increased income. High productivity and processable varieties of potatoes will be developed in the centre. The shortage of potato seeds will also go away. Farmers will get a chance to learn new methods of potato cultivation.
UP is number one in the country in potato production
UP is number one in the country in terms of potato production. However, West Bengal, which comes second, is leading in terms of production per hectare. The production per hectare in West Bengal is 29.9 metric tons. The production per hectare in UP is 25.48 metric tons. In this gap, there is a possibility that it is possible to increase the per hectare yield of potatoes in UP also. This work will become easier when research centers related to potatoes are opened.
