Indian students: Several major US universities have issued special travel advisories for international students and faculty. This advisory has been issued before the inauguration of Donald Trump in January 2025. Trump has announced that he will sign several executive orders on issues such as the economy and immigration on the first day of his second term as President.
Some travel restrictions may apply
In such a situation, many American universities have issued travel advisories for their international students as well as employees, urging them to return to the US before the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected President Donald Trump in January next year. There are fears that the (next) Trump administration may impose some travel restrictions.
Trump will take the oath of office on January 20, 2025. He has announced that he will sign several executive orders on the economy and immigration issues on the first day he is sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
impact on students
Amid concerns about the disruptions caused by travel restrictions during Trump’s first term as president, several top US universities are issuing travel advisories for their international students and faculty. More than half (54 percent) of all international students in the US are from India and China, according to data from the US Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education.
David Elwell, associate dean and director of the International Student Office at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, urged students to evaluate their travel plans during the upcoming winter break. New executive orders under Trump could impact travel and visa processing, he said.
