Jammu, 30 November (HIST). A discussion on the book Main Shiv Hoon was organized at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Jammu on Friday in which the author of the book, Professor Raj Nehru, who is currently the Vice Chancellor of Vishwakarma Skill University, was present as the chief guest. The program started by Dr. Vineet Utpal by presenting a book to Dr. Nehru. Digital Media student Pranav Shukla gave a brief introduction of Dr. Nehru while the welcome address was given by Assistant Professor Vishwa. Dr. Rabia Gupta presented a brief introduction of the book Main Shiv Hoon and made everyone aware of it.

Dr. Nehru started his speech by interacting with the students in which he aroused curiosity about the basic questions of creation. Connecting this curiosity with his book, he explained the various dimensions of Kashmir Shaiva tradition in a simple manner. Giving examples of Aham Brahmasmi and An-al-Haq, he said that this curiosity has been there among the people all over the world.

Dr. Nehru clarified the principles of Advaita by throwing light on the Shaiva tradition of India. He inspired towards it by explaining the importance of consciousness and self-realization from the roots. Referring to the combination of Shiva and Shakti, he presented thoughts on supreme consciousness. He also explained how our karma accumulates in our subconscious mind, layer by layer, and becomes the biggest obstacle to our liberation.

Underlining India’s unique knowledge tradition, Dr. Nehru said that discussions and research have taken place here thousands of years ago on such subjects, about which Western society is taking a long time to gather even superficial information. He gave the example of time dilation, which was explained in terms of “one day in Brahmaloka is equal to several eras on Earth”.

Explaining the significance of the title of the book, I am Shiva, he said that every person is Shiva, provided he understands it at the level of realization. He also said that when no one is looking at you, you are looking at yourself. He urged the students to look at each and every action of theirs with a conscious eye. Only this approach can take a person to a state where the bondages of karma, maya and duality end and the door to salvation opens.

Dr. Nehru satisfied the curiosities of the students by answering their questions on this book full of philosophy and principles. At the end of the program, senior professor of the institute, Dr. Anil Soumitra honored Dr. Nehru by giving him a memento. The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director of the Institute. He mentioned those great personalities from different traditions who, through introspection, connected themselves to that one element.
