Varanasi, 30 November (HS). The Varanasi unit of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a Myanmarese infiltrator from Cantt Railway Station. The intruder had also done recce of Gyanvapi Mosque on Friday. The ATS team took the accused for questioning late at night. During interrogation, the team got many information from Mohammad Abdullah’s mobile phone and the memory card installed in it. The ATS team is tracing the network of the intruder and is also gathering information about his motive.
According to local ATS officers, they were getting information that some persons have formed a syndicate and are sending illegal infiltrators to India with the help of fake documents by hiding their identity. By giving them financial help, they are promoting anti-national activities. Based on this information the team started tracing their location. Meanwhile, as soon as information was received about Mohammad Abdullah’s activity in Varanasi, the team laid siege to the second entrance of Cantt station. As soon as Mohammad Abdullah reached the gate to enter the station late on Friday night, the team caught him.
During interrogation, Abdullah told the ATS team that he had come to Varanasi from Medinipur in West Bengal on Thursday night. He was present near Gyanvapi the whole day on Friday. He tried to talk to the people nearby, but could not talk to anyone. He returned after recce of the mosque. Abdullah told that he helps Rohingya Muslims from Bangladesh to enter India through fake documents. The team also recovered Aadhaar card, UNHCR (United Nations Refugee Agency) card, election card, Rs 1070 in cash and PAN card from the accused.
His name was written as Abdus Salam Mandal in the Aadhar card. The accused lives in Durgabankati of Garhbeta police station in Medinipur district of West Bengal. He has got a fake Aadhaar card made from there in the name of Abdus Salam Mandal, son of Asgar Mandal. According to ATS officers, through the previously arrested Abu Saleh Mandal, Abdullah Ghazi, Sheikh Najibul Haq etc. Abdullah had entered India by infiltrating from Myanmar. Bought land in Medinipur, West Bengal. For this he also got financial help. He was living in Medinipur since 2018 through fake documents and Aadhaar. A case is registered against him in ATS police station of Lucknow. ATS was searching for Mohammad Abdullah for a long time and the team arrested him as soon as his location was found in Banaras.
