Kolkata, 30 November (Hindustan Reporter). In a major action, the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police has seized opium worth more than Rs 1 crore. STF SP Inderjit Basu gave this information on Saturday. He told that on the basis of secret information, two inter-state drug smugglers were arrested and opium was recovered from them by raiding the Devgram Railway Station grounds of Kaliganj police station area of Nadia district.
Superintendent of Police said that the arrested accused have been identified as Jagjivan Singh Munda (30), resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand and Abbas Mandal (40), resident of Kaliganj, Nadia. Both are accused of being involved in drug trafficking. During the search, the police recovered 8.5 kg of opium extract from them, whose value in the international market is said to be more than Rs 1 crore.
STF has registered a case against the accused under NDPS Act in Kaliganj police station. STF SP Basu said today that the arrested accused are connected to a big smuggling network. The police are now investigating other smugglers associated with this network and their activities. He said that this action against drug trafficking will continue in future also.———
