Chief Minister of Maharashtra: Despite the meeting of Maharashtra’s acting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and both the Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speculation has intensified as the situation on the formation of the new government in the state is not clear.

BJP has emerged as the largest party in Maharashtra Assembly elections by winning 132 seats. However, they are yet to select their legislature party leader. Even on Friday, MLAs were not called for the selection of leaders throughout the day. From this it has become clear that the leader of the legislature party will not be elected for the next two days. Due to the delay in this process, there is now speculation that BJP will present a new face for the post of Chief Minister.

BJP will become CM
Even in the meeting of Maharashtra leaders with Amit Shah late on Thursday night, there was no clear indication as to who would be the Chief Minister. It is being said that only indications have been given in the meeting that the Chief Minister will be from BJP. But no certainty has been expressed even on the name of Devendra Fadnavis for the post of Chief Minister.

It was decided in the meeting that BJP, NCP and Shiv Sena leaders will return to Mumbai and start talks on the government formation process. But after returning from Delhi, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde left for his village on Friday morning. Now Mumbai-based leaders of Shiv Sena said that any talks to form the government can proceed only when the BJP elects the leader of the legislature party.

Shinde will return if the matter progresses. Meanwhile, apart from Devendra Fadnavis, names of some other leaders have also been discussed by BJP for the post of Chief Minister. These include the names of state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who comes from an Other Backward Class, and Pune MP and Union Minister Muralidhar Mohol, who comes from the Maratha community.

Who is Chandrashekhar Bawankule?
Chandrashekhar Bawankule is the President of Maharashtra BJP. He has won the assembly elections for the fourth time from Kamthi assembly seat. In the Assembly elections 2024, Bawankule defeated Congress candidate Suresh Bhoyar by 40946 votes. From 2014 to 2019, Bawankule was the Minister of Power and Excise in the Devendra Fadnavis government. However, his ticket was canceled in the 2019 assembly elections.

Bawankule belongs to Teli community. The Teli community is the second largest OBC category in the Vidarbha region. Because of Bawankule this community is close to BJP. On August 12, 2022, BJP appointed Chandrashekhar Bawankule as the state president of Maharashtra.

Bawankule is considered close to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Bawankule has been both the vice president and president of Nagpur BJP. Also worked as Organization Secretary in Kamathi Assembly. Bawankule has also been a member of Nagpur District Council.
