Barmer, 29 November (Hindustan Reporter). A Border Security Force soldier posted at the Bera check post of Bakhasar Jat district on the India-Pakistan International Border shot himself with his rifle. Hearing the sound of firing, other soldiers present nearby came running. But by then the young man died.
According to the information, Shankarlal Gurjar (52), resident of Neemkathana, was posted as head constable in 83 battalion of BSF in Barmer. Was getting ready for duty near the border fencing on Friday morning. While getting ready at the check post at around seven o’clock, he committed suicide by shooting himself below the chin with his rifle. BSF jawan Shankarlal was working in Barmer since August 2020. He was a resident of Narlot village under Thoi police station of Neemkathana district.
On receiving information about the incident, Bakhasar police reached the spot. Chauhtan DSP Jeevan Lal and Bakhasar police station officer Vishan Singh inspected the spot. FSL team was called to collect evidence. After this, in the evening the body was kept in the mortuary of the government hospital of Barmer. At present the reasons for suicide have not been revealed. Investigation is ongoing. The jawan’s family has been informed.
