Mumbai: Three people died in an accident in Sangli, western Maharashtra. Three people died when a car fell into the river from Ankali bridge of Krishna river at 1 o’clock on Wednesday night. The dead include two women and one man.
The incident occurred when members of the Khedekar and Narvekar families, who live in Sangli, were returning after attending a wedding in Kolhapur.
Elaborating in this regard, an official said that the members of Khedekar and Narvekar families living in Sangli were attending a wedding in Kolhapur and were passing through the Ankle Bridge on the Krishna river here at 1 o’clock in the night, when the vehicle collided. The driver lost control of the car near the old and new bridges adjacent to each other.
Meanwhile, the car went out of control at full speed and fell into the river bed between two bridges. In this accident, Prasad Bhalchandra Khedekar (40), Prerna Prasad Khedekar (35) and Vaishnavi Santosh Narvekar (23) died on the spot. While witnesses Santosh Narvekar (42), Varad Santosh Narvekar (21) and Samarjit Prasad Khedekar (5) were seriously injured. All these people are residents of Gangadhar Nagar near Sangli Akashvani Kendra.
As soon as information about the incident was received, local citizens and Jaisinghpur police personnel reached the spot and admitted the injured to Sangli Civil Hospital for further treatment.
Apart from this, the police and administration took out the dead bodies. Although three to four such incidents have happened at this place till now, no remedial plan is being made by the administration.
