Two-day annual review meeting on the topic ‘Importance of nematodes in agriculture’ concluded in HAU, Hisar, 28 November (HS). A two-day annual review meeting organized under the All India Coordinated Research Project at Haryana Agricultural University on the topic – Importance of Nematodes in Agriculture, was concluded on Thursday. Scientists and researchers from 24 centers across the country participated in this meeting. Dr. Poonam Jasrotia, Additional Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, said that crops can be saved by biological control of nematodes. He said that the problem of nematodes is increasing day by day and the contribution of nematode scientists can prove to be important in helping farmers solve this problem. Scientists will have to work better to diagnose the problem of nematodes.
Program Coordinator Dr. Gautam Chawla presented a detailed report of the work done by various centers regarding nematodes. He also stressed upon all the scientists and researchers to work in coordination in this field. In the meeting, results of biodiversity, reduction in production due to nematodes, various crops, vegetables, oilseeds, protected cultivation and control of nematodes along with bio-control were shared and future plans were made. Dr. RK Jain stressed on increasing the number of posts of nematode scientists so that work can be done in a planned manner to deal with this increasing problem in the country. Dr. HS God said that effective control of nematodes can be done by planning for the future based on past experience. Dr. Kranthi told about nematode control in protected farming. In the meeting, Dr. Hemraj, Dr. Nishi Kesari, Dr. Hosagudar, Dr. Prahlad, Dr. Ashish Kumar and Dr. Manjunath gave information about the work done during the last year. Dr. Anil Kumar passed the vote of thanks in the meeting. The stage was moderated by Dr. Chetra Bhatt.
