Katihar, 28 November (HS). Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tarkishore Prasad has described the opposition’s uproar over the Waqf Board Bill as politically motivated. He said that the Central Government has constituted a Joint Parliamentary Committee to consider this bill and work has also started in this direction.
He further said that the opposition is trying to confuse the people of the minority community, which is absolutely not justified. He said that the Central Government and Bihar Government are completely sensitive towards the interests of the minority community and are taking steps for their betterment.
The main points of the Waqf Board Bill, 2024 are that the Bill changes the structure of the Central Waqf Council and Waqf Boards to include non-Muslim members in them. Furthermore, the Bill empowers the Collector to survey Waqf properties and recognize government properties marked as Waqf as not Waqf.
