The central government has once again taken aggressive action against obscene content. The central government has banned 18 OTT platforms, 19 websites, 10 apps and 57 OTT social media handles serving such content. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had warned this platform several times. However, the provisions of the IT Act were frequently violated by them.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said, 'Objectionable content was being broadcast on this OTT platform. These apps have been removed from Google Play Store and Apple App Store. According to a report, Union Minister Anurag Thakur has repeatedly warned these 18 OTT platforms to remove obscene content.
Ban on these 18 OTT apps
The 18 OTT apps that have been removed include Dreams Films, Woovi, Yesma, Uncut Adda, Triflix, X Prime, Neon Are included. PrimePlay included. Along with these 18 OTT apps, the central government has also banned 19 websites and 10 apps. Of these 10 apps, seven have been removed from the Google Play Store and three from the Apple App Store.
The government says that the ban on these platforms and apps has been imposed under Section 67 and 67A of the IT Act 2000, Section 292 of the IPC and Section 4 of the IRWA (Prohibition of Indecent Representation of Women Act) 1986.
Social media channels were also blocked
One of the banned apps had more than one crore downloads on Google Play Store. At the same time, two apps were downloaded more than 50 lakh times. These apps were broadcasting trailers of films with obscene content on social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube. 57 such social media handles have also been blocked. 12 channels on Facebook, 17 on Instagram, 16 on X and 12 on YouTube have been blocked which contain this content.
