Fazilka: The counter intelligence team of Punjab Police arrested a gangster and his associate drug smuggler after a brief encounter. The name of the arrested gangster of Jaggu Bhagwanpuriyan gang is said to be Bhupinder Singh alias Sonu Kangla, against whom about 30 to 35 criminal cases are registered.
Giving information, an official of Punjab Police State Special Cell said that the counter-intelligence team of Punjab Police arrested a “gangster” and his associate after a brief encounter. The name of the arrested drug smuggler is Bhupinder Singh alias Sonu Kangla. There are around 30 to 35 criminal cases registered against him in Amritsar and different parts of the state. The Counter Intelligence Wing of Faridkot Police arrested Kangla and his associate Sarabjit Singh alias Babu Saab alias Nath near Khara village while they were traveling in a jeep. Punjab Police counter intelligence chief Adiyari said the counter intelligence team had set up a checkpoint near the village of Khara on the Kotkapura-Muktsar road.
A Thar vehicle coming from Muktsar was signaled to stop, but the occupants of the car fired at the police and tried to escape, the counter intelligence team chased the vehicle. First the team fired in the air but then targeted the tires of the vehicle. The vehicle stopped and both the occupants tried to run towards the fields. However, they were caught by the police and a 32 bore USA pistol and an empty magazine were recovered from them and both the persons were arrested. He was arrested by Amritsar Police in October 2012.
He escaped from the custody of Kangla Amritsar Police on 8 June 2015. When they were being taken back to Nabha jail after the hearing of a case in Amritsar, the State Special Cell officer said that Case No. 23, A.D., was registered against these accused. A case has been registered under 109, 25/54/59 Arms Act and BNS.
