Gujarat wicketkeeper batsman Urvil Patel created a new Indian record for the fastest century in T20 cricket by scoring a century in just 28 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Alig Trophy T20 match against Tripura. About a year ago, Urvil became the second Indian player to score the fastest century in List-A.
In T20 cricket, 26-year-old Urvil broke Rishabh Pant’s Indian record of scoring a century in 32 balls against Himachal Pradesh in the 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. With this, Urvil is at second place in terms of scoring the fastest century in T20 cricket. The world record is in the name of Sahil Chauhan of Estonia who scored a century in just 27 balls against Cyprus.
Urvil, who came to bat as an opener against Tripura, scored unbeaten 113 runs in 35 balls which included seven fours and 12 sixes. With the help of his aggressive century, Gujarat achieved the target of 156 runs in just 10.2 overs. Urvil had earlier scored 100 off 41 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh in Chandigarh, which was the second fastest century by an Indian batsman in List A. In the match, Gujarat defeated Tripura by eight wickets. In reply to Tripura’s 155 runs for eight wickets, Gujarat achieved the target with the loss of two wickets. For Gujarat, Chintan Gaja took two wickets for 18 runs and Arzan Nagwaswala took three wickets for 35 runs. Opener Arya Desai scored 38 runs.
