New Delhi: India handled a record 4.49 million shipments of personal computers (PCs), including desktops, notebooks and workstations, in the third quarter of calendar year 2024, a marginal growth of 0.1 per cent year-on-year. Shipments rose 7.1 percent to 3.39 million units in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, the notebook and workstation categories saw growth of 2.8 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively, while the desktop category declined by 8.1 percent.
According to a report by International Data Corporation, demand for premium notebooks has increased by 7.6 percent due to online festive sales.
Hewlett Packard (HP) led the market with 29 per cent share during the quarter, topping both the commercial and consumer segments with 34.3 per cent and 24.8 per cent shares respectively.
Lenovo was in second place with 17.3 percent share, while Dell and Acer were both in third place with 14.6 percent share. Asus was at fifth position with 9.7 percent share, however, in the consumer segment, Asus was second only to HP.
E-tail sales, which usually begin around the second week of October, began in late September, leading to an increase in personal computer shipments. Various brands led the market by offering huge discounts, cashback and bundled accessories on e-tail sales.
In the September quarter, the consumer segment declined 2.9 percent despite sellers aggressively discounting a wide range of PCs on e-tail platforms. The demand situation was more organic this year, with the commercial PC market in India on a recovery path as industries have gradually started updating their hardware.
