New Delhi: There has been a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon (Hezbollah). Although the war has been halted due to global pressure, the Israel-Hamas war continues in Gaza.
The Israeli cabinet has approved this ceasefire. This war could be stopped due to the efforts of America and France. In that regard, the Israeli Cabinet 10 Vs. 1 has been approved.
The Hezbollah group, which arose out of Lebanon’s ‘civil war’ since 1990, did not directly participate in the peace talks, but Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri attended the talks as Hezbollah’s representative.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said that despite these talks, if Hezbollah violates the ceasefire, it will be considered a war.
At this stage, Iran’s fear of confronting Israel is gone, with Hezbollah not even in the picture. Fresh from the war against Hezbollah, Israel can now attack Hamas with full force. Netanyahu said that our pressure on this may increase.
Netanyahu further said that we have now pledged to completely oust Hamas from Gaza and want to see that Hamas never becomes a threat to Israel. We also want our citizens who were previously living in the North to be able to return safely.
Under the terms of this ceasefire, Lebanese forces have advanced several kilometers into the southern part of Lebanon. We will retreat from our northern flank only if we retreat.
The day before the ceasefire began, Israel launched a massive missile attack as well as airstrikes on South Beirut. Two hours before that, Israel had asked citizens to evacuate Beirut.
In this war of the Middle East, not only Israel and Iran-supported Hezbollah or Hezbollah-backed Hamas are involved, now the possibility of Israel-Iran war has come to the fore.
President Pedden expressed hope that the armistice would actually be a ‘permanent’ armistice.
The American official said that this ceasefire will also be a step towards ending the war in Gaza and releasing the prisoners.
