Ajmer, 27 November (HS). A civil court of Ajmer on Wednesday issued notice to all the parties while accepting the petition regarding setting up of Sankat Mochak Mahadev temple in the Dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti in Ajmer. The Civil Court has fixed December 20 as the next date for hearing in this case.

A petition was filed in the court on September 26 by Vishnu Gupta, national president of Hindu Seva and resident of Sarita Vihar, through lawyer Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh. On Wednesday, November 27, the court, after studying all the merits and demerits of the case and answering questions from the plaintiff and seeking the opinions of other parties, has issued a notice to all the parties asking them to submit their replies. The next hearing in this case has been fixed on December 20. The three parties to whom notice has been given in the matter include Dargah Committee Ajmer, Ministry of Minority Affairs New Delhi and Archaeological Survey of India Department.

Petitioner Vishnu Gupta has described the acceptance of his petition as a victory. He said that the petition was roaming here and there in the court for two months. The hearing was not taking place due to the judge being on leave or leave. After two months, the court heard the matter and issued notice to all the parties.

It is noteworthy that in the petition he has said that he is the guardian of Lord Sankat Mochan Mahadev Temple. This temple is in the Dargah complex. In ancient times, a Dargah was built in place of this temple. The petition demanded the right to worship in the temple and removal of encroachment. Also, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) was requested to conduct a survey of the area.

The court has been requested to declare the Dargah complex of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti in Ajmer as the temple of Lord Sankat Mochan Mahadev and allow worship there. The petition claims unauthorized occupation by the Dargah Committee. The petition has also requested the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a complete survey of the Dargah complex.

It is noteworthy that earlier Dargah Diwan’s son Syed Naseeruddin Chishti has condemned the petition claiming that Ajmer Sharif Dargah was built on the Mahadev temple. Chishti is the successor to the president of the All India Sufi Sajjadanshin Parishad and the spiritual head of the Ajmer Dargah. He had said that “We strongly condemn this act and will respond to it.”
