BSF catches Bangladeshi traveler with gold and other smuggled material worth Rs 36.56 lakh

Kolkata, 26 November (HS). BSF South Bengal Frontier personnel have achieved major success in two separate smuggling cases. On Tuesday, BSF said in a statement that the soldiers of the 145th battalion deployed at ICP Petrapole arrested a Bangladeshi traveler with 473 grams of gold worth Rs 36.56 lakh, which he had hidden in his body. Meanwhile, soldiers of the 118th battalion seized eight air rifles, one air pistol and nine packets of air pellets during an attempt to smuggle them from the border post Boltala.

BSF has said that during a routine check at around 7 am on Tuesday morning, the activities of a Bangladeshi passenger were found suspicious. During the search, four gold biscuits were found hidden in the passenger’s body, which he had hidden in his rectum. During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was a farmer by profession and was smuggling for the greed of earning more. He told that he hid this gold in his body in Tanti Bazaar of Dhaka and had planned to hand it over to some unknown person in Bada Bazaar of Kolkata. He was to get Rs 40 thousand in return, but BSF had already caught him.

On the same day, during patrolling at Bolatala border post, troops seized eight air rifles, one air pistol, one air gun barrel and nine packets of air pellets from smugglers trying to smuggle them from India to Bangladesh.

The arrested Bangladeshi passenger and the seized gold has been handed over to the Customs Department, Petrapole. Meanwhile, the seized weapons and other material were sent to Hingalganj police station.

Public Relations Officer of BSF South Bengal Frontier appreciated the alertness of the soldiers and expressed their commitment to stop smuggling on the border.
