Lucknow, 26 November (HS). Lucknow University Vice Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Rai has been selected as a member of the committee constituted by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It will be presided over by Home Minister Amit Shah. This high-level committee has been constituted to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Harekrishna Mahtab.
Dr. Harekrishna Mahtab was a leader of the Indian National Congress, a prominent personality of the Indian independence struggle, and the Chief Minister of Odisha (1946 to 1950 and 1956 to 1961). He is popularly known as “Utkal Kesari”. The responsibilities of the Committee include planning, monitoring programs to commemorate this historic occasion, and providing guidance and oversight for their successful implementation.
With this remarkable achievement, Professor Alok Kumar Rai has also been nominated as the Member of the General Assembly of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This tenure will start from November 5 and will last for three years. This nomination has been made by the Education Minister of the Government of India under the provisions of Rules 3(iv) and 3(viii) of the Union.
Under the visionary leadership of Professor Alok Kumar Rai, Lucknow University has achieved many important achievements. The university has secured 97th position in the All India Universities category. It has been ranked 32nd among state-funded public universities and an impressive 23rd in the field of law. It is the first non-specialist (general) state university from Uttar Pradesh to be ranked in the top 100 universities list of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
Under the leadership of Professor Rai, the University has implemented the New Education Policy (NEP 2020) for the first time in the country from the session 2020. This includes the introduction of fourth year UG batch, credit transfer system, multiple entry and exit options, and introduction of one-year PG programme.
Additionally, Lucknow University has become the first state university in Uttar Pradesh to receive NAAC’s A++ accreditation. It also has the distinction of maintaining Category 1 status and top 100 position in NIRF ranking. These achievements reflect Lucknow University’s continued commitment to academic excellence and innovation under the inspirational leadership of Professor Alok Kumar Rai.
