New Delhi, 25 November (Hindustan Reporter). Cross-examination of prosecution witnesses and Inspector Satish Kumar in the case registered against Sajjan Kumar in the case related to Janakpuri of 1984 anti-Sikh riots was conducted in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja ordered the next hearing of the case on December 4.
Today, apart from the cross-examination of Satish Kumar, the statement of the investigating officer of this case, ACP Anil Kumar, was also to be recorded, but ACP Anil Kumar was on leave due to personal reasons. After that, the court ordered to fix the date of December 4 for recording the statement of ACP Anil Kumar and judicial officer posted in Punjab, Balwinder Kaur Dhaliwal.
On October 18, the court had given permission to CBI to record the statements of more witnesses. On October 7, the statement of a witness was recorded through video conferencing. Earlier on August 27, statements of two witnesses Kanwaljeet Kaur and Dr. Satbir Bedi were recorded. On July 19, the statement of witness Tejendra Singh was recorded. Earlier on January 11, the statement of witness Harjeet Kaur was recorded. On December 7, 2023, two witnesses Tilak Raj Narula and Inderjit Singh had recorded their statements. On November 9, 2023, witness Manjeet Kaur recorded her statement. In her statement, Manjeet Kaur said that I had heard from the people in the crowd that Sajjan Kumar was included in the crowd, but had not seen Sajjan Kumar with my eyes. The court had recorded the statements of two witnesses on 12 October 2023. On September 21, 2023, the court had ordered to remove from the records unnecessary documents and statements of witnesses related to the murder accused against Sajjan Kumar.
On August 23, 2023, the court had framed charges against Sajjan Kumar. The court had ordered framing of charges against Sajjan Kumar under sections 147, 148, 153A, 295, 149, 307, 308, 323, 325, 395, 436 of the Indian Penal Code. However, the court had ordered the removal of Section 302 of murder imposed against Sajjan Kumar by the SIT. During the hearing, the court was told that Sajjan Kumar is not in custody in this case, Sajjan Kumar is on bail in this case.
The matter is of Janakpuri. In fact, during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, two Sikhs, Sohan Singh and his son-in-law Avtar Singh, were murdered in Janakpuri on November 1, 1984. Whereas Gurcharan Singh was burnt in the area of Vikaspuri police station due to which he died. In both these cases, SIT registered the case in 2015 and started investigation. For this, Sajjan Kumar’s polygraph has also been done in May 2018.
