Jammu, 25 November (HS). Director Agriculture Jammu, Arvinder Singh Reen on Monday visited the State Seed Testing Laboratory to begin testing of the first seed samples for the Rabi 2024-25 season.

The trials are being conducted in the grow-out area adjacent to the laboratory and include a variety of crops including wheat HD3226, gram GNG217, pea AS10, oat Kent, barley Kalash, Knol Khol King of Market, radish Mino early, Barseem Muscawi and Turnip Purple Top etc.

The primary objective of these grow-out trials is to enhance seed quality assurance and ensure genetic purity by accurately cross-analyzing seed samples in actual field conditions. The tests will help verify the results of laboratory tests by looking at the performance of seeds under natural environmental factors that will work closely with the seed testing laboratory.

Speaking on the occasion the Director said that these grow-out trials will provide real-world performance data that will simulate the diverse environmental challenges faced by seeds in the fields. This comprehensive approach will help in ensuring quality assurance of seeds. Ultimately it will benefit the farming community by providing access to best quality seeds and improving overall agricultural production. The director was accompanied by regional head, seed analyst Gopal Krishna, SSA Sohnika Rani, JAEO Punamjeet Kaur, AEA Sanjay Razdan and employees of the State Seed Testing Laboratory (SSTL).
