New Delhi, 25 November (Hindustan Reporter). Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials on Sunday said veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim is not available for the ODI series against West Indies, while captain Nazmul Hossain is also doubtful.
Both players were ruled out of the Test series against West Indies as they are recovering from injuries sustained during the ODI series against Afghanistan.
At the end of Afghanistan’s innings in the first match of the three-match series in the UAE, Mushfiqur suffered an injury to the index finger of his left hand while keeping wicket and a fracture was confirmed in post-match X-rays, keeping him out of action for four days. Had to stay out of the field for six weeks.
In the second ODI, Nazmul suffered a groin injury while fielding and was scanned after the match, which revealed a Grade II strain in his left groin. As a result, he could not take part in the Test series against West Indies.
“As far as Mushfiqur is concerned, I don’t think he will be able to play in the ODI series against West Indies as he needs more time to recover,” a BCB official told Cricbuzz.
“We are not announcing our squad as we are watching the progress of our regular captain Nazmul and taking time to see whether he is able to play or not,” he said.
He said, “We cannot take any risk with him, because it is a back injury and if he further damages it by playing ODI against West Indies, then in that case he may have to stay out of cricket for one to one and a half months. And that can be quite devastating, because we have the Champions Trophy, but I think he is making good progress.”
The ODI series will start from December 8, followed by the T20 series from December 16.
