Washing and blow drying your hair at a salon is a particularly relaxing experience. But recently, India’s famous neurosurgeon Dr. Arun Naik has given a shocking warning. He said that if care is not taken, wrong position of the neck while washing hair in the salon can lead to a fatal stroke.
According to Dr. Naik, bending the neck too far back over the sink while washing hair can put pressure on the nerves of the neck, which can disrupt the blood supply to the brain. In mild cases, symptoms like dizziness, blurred vision, numbness and nervousness may appear. But this condition can lead to a fatal stroke due to prolonged pressure.
Doctors have named this condition ‘Beauty Parlor Stroke Syndrome’. The first case was reported in America in 1993. Since then many such cases have come to light. In 2016, Adele Burns, a woman from Scotland, suffered a stroke while getting her hair washed at a salon, due to which she could not speak, see or walk for 24 hours.
Who is at greater risk?
Dr. Naik said that people suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes or neck problems are at higher risk. Therefore, these people should be more careful.
Dr Naik shares some simple tips:
Support your neck: Use a towel or cushion before placing your neck over the sink.
Height of sink and chair: Set the height of the sink and chair correctly.
change position: Do not remain in one position for a long time.
Recognize the symptoms: If symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, difficulty speaking or blurred vision occur, immediately inform the salon staff and contact a doctor.
This warning is important for the millions of people who regularly visit salons. This serious danger can be avoided by taking small precautions.
