Millions of bacteria start accumulating in the washing machine. The special thing is that these bacteria make the washing machine their home. In such a situation, if you do not maintain the machine properly then 5 types of infections can occur.
E-coli bacteria – This contamination consists mostly of E-coli bacteria. E-coli is found in food, environment, water, and even in the stomach of humans and animals. When they are in the machine they enter the human being. E-coli causes stomach infections.
To avoid E. coli, do not put undergarments, cloth diapers and kitchen towels in the washing machine. Instead, clean them separately.
Staphylococcus bacteria can survive even in hot water. In such a situation, when it enters the machine, it becomes difficult to get out. When this bacteria comes in contact with the skin it causes skin infection.
Apart from this, Staphylococcus also causes other diseases. To avoid this, clean the washing machine regularly with hot water (above 60 degrees) or bleach to kill bacteria. Once a month, put it in the washing machine with hot water and bleach.
A common bacterium found in water and soil is Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It lives in humid environment. It penetrates deep inside the washing machine. This can lead to pneumonia, UTI, wounds, septicemia. To avoid this, leave the washing machine in the open for some time after using it. Wherever there is a rubber seal, clean it with warm water.
Fungi, such as Candida, are ubiquitous in washing machines. Front loader washing machines are prone to mold growth. There is a risk of itching, skin infection and respiratory infection due to fungal infection. To avoid this, wipe the door, rubber seal etc. of the washing machine with a dry cloth every time and leave it outside for some time. Clean with vinegar or wash with cleaner once a month.
