Cyclone Fengal: Another cyclonic storm is set to hit the country, which may cause heavy rains in many states. During this time, winds will blow at a speed of up to 55 kilometers per hour, which can wreak havoc in the surrounding areas. The name of this cyclone will be Fungal. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and red alerts for heavy rain.
A cyclonic circulation is forming over the Indian Ocean and adjacent South Andaman Sea, which is likely to form a low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23. Subsequently, it will move west-northwestwards and turn into a depression over central parts of South Bay of Bengal during next 2 days, impacting Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. During this period, there may be rain along with strong winds.
Moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala on November 25. Light to moderate rain may occur at many places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands throughout the week. On November 22, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will remain cloudy. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on 25-27 November. There may be rain in Nicobar Islands from 22 to 24 November and in Kerala from 26 to 27 November.
Alert issued for fishermen
IMD has issued an alert for fishermen. Wind speed is 35 kmph to 55 kmph along South Kerala Coast and Lakshadweep area. Strong winds will prevail over South Andaman Sea on 22-24 November, Comorin area and Gulf of Mannar on 25 November, Southeast Bay of Bengal on 22-25 November and South-West Bay of Bengal on 24-25 November. In such circumstances, fishermen have been advised not to go to these areas.
