Chief Minister took stock of the progress of Martyr Memorial area

Guwahati, 20 November (HS). Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited West Boragaon and inspected the Martyr Memorial Area, which is being built in honor of the supreme sacrifice of the men and women of the Assam Movement.

It is noteworthy that the memorial area, being built at a cost of Rs 100 crore, will be dedicated to the people on December 10 this year or early next year.

Taking stock of the construction work as well as the finalization process, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that once completed, the Martyrs Memorial Area will be dedicated to honoring the sacrifice of the men and women who sacrificed their lives during the Assam Movement. It will be a place of pilgrimage. This complex will house one of the tallest towers and will house the statues of all the brave martyrs.

He said that the state government has started this project in honor of the people of the state who sacrificed their lives for Assam. He said that although 90 per cent of the work on the complex has been completed, another work related to ‘Light and Sound’ and ‘Auditorium’ is under construction, which will provide more beauty and convenience to the people visiting the complex.

He said the complex would have a meditation hall, a gallery with photographs related to the Assam movement and a shop selling ethnic delicacies for the people. Dr. Sarma said that the 225 feet high memorial will symbolize the generosity and sacrifice of the martyrs of the Assam movement.

The Chief Minister also spoke to senior officials of PWD (Building) and Assam Accord Implementation Department on various aspects of the project. He also asked the PWD (B) department to complete it soon.

Assam Accord Implementation Minister Atul Bora, Assam Accord Implementation Department Secretary Neera Daulagappu, PWD (B) Special Secretary Raj Chakraborty and other senior officials were present during the Chief Minister’s memorial visit.
