Eye on Babar in tab scam, 21 more arrested; Chopra of Bengal is becoming the ‘new Jamtara’

Kolkata, 20 November (HS). Investigation into tab scam has gained momentum in West Bengal. The state police has arrested 21 more people from different districts in the last two days. Lakhs of rupees have been recovered from them, and 797 bank accounts have been frozen. This scam is related to the theft of money from the TAB scheme provided for students.

According to the police, this scam was being operated from Chopra of North Dinajpur. In the eyes of the police, a person named Babar could be the mastermind of this scam. These thugs of Chopra area grabbed the money of students of many districts as part of a conspiracy.

Investigation revealed that in 2008, a person from Chopra was arrested by the Kerala Police, who had defrauded the money of a Central Government project in a similar manner. Since then, many big scams have come to light in this area.

So far, 140 cases related to this scam have been registered across the state. A total of 40 people have been arrested, out of which five are residents of Purba Medinipur. People from Jhargram, Asansol and other districts of North Bengal are also said to be involved in this.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had already warned about such scams. He had said that this scam is not limited to Bengal only, but money from the schemes of Maharashtra and Rajasthan has also been embezzled in a similar manner. In the investigation so far, facts are emerging that prove his claims true.

According to the police, the criminals of Chopra are using technical methods to commit such frauds, due to which the area is moving towards becoming a cyber crime hub like Jamtara.

The more layers of the tab scam are being revealed, the more shocking information is coming to light. The police have assured that all the culprits will soon be brought to justice.
