Maharashtra Elections 2024: Political stir is still being seen on the issue of ‘Cash for Vote’ scam to woo voters in Maharashtra Assembly elections. Bharatiya Janata Party’s senior leader and National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, who is embroiled in this scam, has given clarification after being accused of distributing money. He said bluntly, ‘Am I so stupid that I will take cash to the opposition leader’s hotel and distribute the money there?’

I didn’t do anything like that: Vinod Tawde
He said, ‘I know the rules and I did not do anything like that.’ It is noteworthy that Bahujan Vikas Aghadi leader Hitendra Thakur had accused Tawde on Tuesday (November 19) that, ‘Tawde had reached a hotel in Virar with Rs 5 crore. His workers were also with him. Meanwhile there was a huge uproar. This hotel is located about 60 km from Mumbai. After this scam came to light, opposition parties including Congress and Shiv Sena also attacked Tawde.

FIR against Tawde involved in ‘cash for vote’ scandal!

After the ‘Cash for Vote’ scam came to light, the Election Commission has registered an FIR against Tawde under the Representation of the People Act. A total of three complaints have been filed, out of which two involve the name of BJP candidate and one involves the name of Vinod Tadve. Maharashtra’s Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Kulkarni said, ‘After receiving information from Nalasopara, police reached the spot. The flying squad of the election system formed to enforce the code of conduct also reached the spot. The flying squad searched the premises and made some recoveries. Everything is under control and anyone who violates the code of conduct will be dealt with as per the law.

Rs 9.93 lakh cash recovered from hotel room

After this scam came to light, the Election Commission inspected the hotel rooms. A Commission official said that cash worth Rs 9.93 lakh has been recovered from the hotel room. However, Vinod Tawde has strongly denied these allegations. He said that the Election Commission should investigate the entire matter, examine the CCTV, only then the truth will come out. He said that a meeting of MLAs of Nalasopara is to be held. Therefore, he had come to this meeting to explain the model code of conduct, method of sealing the voting machine etc.

Am I not a fool, distributing cash in the opposition leader’s hotel? :Vinod Tawde

Tawde said, ‘Hitendra Thakur and his family are the owners of Vivanta Hotel. Am I so stupid to take cash to the opposition leader’s hotel and distribute the money there? I have been in politics for 40 years and know the absolute rules of what can and cannot be done during the silence period after the election campaign is over. I had come to the workers only to have a general conversation. I wasn’t even campaigning. There was a meeting between me and the workers to explain the voting process.

‘Even national leaders jumped into this small issue’

He said that the leaders of Mahavikas Aghadi have demanded a detailed investigation. The surprising thing is that even national leaders have jumped into this small issue. BJP people are not so stupid that they will go to the hotel of the opposition leader and distribute cash. They should understand this. Ultimately no amount was received from me. Rahul Gandhi and Supriya Sule have seen Rs 5 crore, please send it to me. Can also deposit in my account.
