Lucknow, March 13 (HS). In this time's deworming campaign in Uttar Pradesh, 84 percent of the target population has taken the medicine Albendazole to kill stomach worms. Whereas in the last campaign only 79 percent of children, adolescents and teenagers had consumed Albendazole. Consumption of this medicine not only improves health and nutrition but also increases the body's immunity. Anemia remains under control. Also, the learning ability of children increases.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak said that compared to last year, the success achieved this year in getting people to take medicines is due to the tireless efforts of the Education and Women and Child Development Department along with the Health Department and the awareness of the public. We are continuously moving towards building a healthy and nourished society. It is hoped that the new sapling of the state will be healthier than others.
Dr. Manoj Shukla, General Manager of the National Child Health Programme, said that during the deworming campaign in February, a campaign was started to feed the deworming drug Albendazole in educational institutions and through Anganwadi centres. In this campaign, a target was set to feed Albendazole to a total of 9.14 crore children, adolescent boys and girls aged one to 19 years in 758 blocks of 69 districts of the state. During this period, a total of 7 crore 69 lakh 77 thousand 361 people consumed Albendazole. Dr. Manoj said that a deworming campaign was launched in August last year, during which 79 percent of the targeted children, boys and girls in the state were given deworming medicines against the target. This year this figure is 84 percent relative to the target, which is 05 percent more than last year.
He said that when there is worm infection in the body, there are complaints like stomach ache, diarrhoea, weakness, vomiting and loss of appetite. This infection occurs by walking barefoot, picking up food items fallen on the ground and eating them, etc. Due to this the child becomes physically and mentally weak. He suffers from anemia. By consuming Albendazole these worms are thrown out of the stomach. This increases the absorption capacity of iron in the body and removes anemia i.e. blood deficiency in the body. This campaign was launched on 1 February. A measurement round was conducted on February 5 for the children who were left out of the campaign due to some reasons.
