G20: External Affairs Minister Jaishankar held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of the G-20 summit to discuss ways to boost bilateral relations after the withdrawal of troops from the LAC. Both the countries decided to convene a meeting of Special Representatives on the border issue soon after five years. Both the countries have also come close to an agreement on starting direct flights and Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

According to the statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the discussion between the foreign ministers focused on bridging differences, removing doubts and taking steps to advance bilateral relations while respecting each other’s interests. During this, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and starting of direct flights, data sharing and media exchange on cross border rivers etc. were discussed.

During the meeting, there was discussion on taking forward the consensus reached in the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping last month. After the delegation-level meeting with Wang Yi, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said in a social media post that both sides noted the progress in withdrawal of troops from the border. Regarding the Modi-Xi meeting, he said, ‘Our leaders have said that the foreign ministers and special representatives should meet as soon as possible.’ Some progress has been made in this direction.

Experts aware of the recent developments in India-China relations say that the Special Representative level talks will be the next important step towards agreeing on convening the meeting of Special Representatives and the Foreign Secretary-Deputy Minister system soon. For this, India’s special representative is NSA Ajit Doval, while the Chinese side in the talks is being led by Foreign Minister Wang Yi. According to experts, after the completion of the withdrawal of troops, Indian and Chinese armies are doing one round of patrolling each in Depsang and Demchok. Now the focus will be on reducing tension at all levels.

China said- there is a need to accelerate positive steps
An official statement issued by China said that the two sides will implement the agreements reached by their heads of state, respect each other’s core interests, build mutual trust through dialogue and communication, and restore bilateral relations as soon as possible. Will promote. Emphasis was laid on bringing it back on track as much as possible. Wang said the two sides should send more positive signals and make practical progress on issues such as resuming direct flights, sending journalists to each other and easing visa procedures.
