Shimla, 19 November (HS). Himachal Pradesh is witnessing severe cold in the month of November. There is severe cold from the mountains to the plains. The temperature in the tribal areas has dropped to minus 9 degrees, while the effects of harsh winter are being felt in the plains as well. Cold has increased in hill stations also. The mercury has reached below 3 degrees in Manali, due to which people are facing cold even in their homes.
The Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of further increase in cold in the coming days. There is a forecast of rain and snowfall in the higher altitude areas of the state from November 23 to November 25, due to which the cold wave will intensify. However, this will end the dry spell that has been going on in the state for more than one and a half months and farmers and gardeners will heave a sigh of relief. Apart from this, the department has issued a yellow alert of dense fog in the plains districts of Bilaspur and Mandi for the next two days i.e. 20th and 21st November. On Tuesday, visibility was 500 meters in the morning due to fog in Sundernagar of Mandi district. Today there is sunshine in other places of the state including the capital Shimla, although less heat is being felt in the sun.
According to the Meteorological Department report, Monday night was the coldest night of the season. The minimum temperature in four cities of the state was recorded in minus. Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti district was the coldest place, where the mercury was recorded at -9.4 degrees Celsius for the first time in the winter season. The temperature here dropped by 4.2 degrees in one night. The minimum temperatures in Kukumseri, Keylong and Samdho of the same district were recorded at -3.2 degrees, -2.3 degrees and -1.3 degrees Celsius respectively. Due to the havoc of cold, the water of rivers, springs and natural water sources in the district has frozen. Due to extreme cold, snow has accumulated on the roads in the passes. The district administration has closed the traffic movement from today on the Koksar to Losar (on NH-505) road, Darcha-Sarchu (on NH-03) and Darcha-Shinkula road connecting Lahaul to Spiti.
The Meteorological Department has said that the minimum temperature in many cities of the state has gone 1 to 2 degrees below normal. The average minimum temperature of the state was recorded 0.5 degrees below normal.
Minimum temperature in Shimla was 8 degrees, Sundernagar 6.6 degrees, Bhuntar 3.2 degrees, Kalpa 0.4 degrees, Dharamshala 9 degrees, Una 5.8 degrees, Palampur 6 degrees, Solan 5.6 degrees, Manali 2.7 degrees, Kangra 7 degrees. , 7.8 degrees in Mandi, 7.4 degrees in Hamirpur, 7.2 degrees in Chamba, 7.8 degrees in Dalhousie, 9 degrees in Bilaspur, 8.2 degrees in Jubbarhatti, 6.8 degrees in Kufri, 4.4 degrees in Narkanda, 5.8 degrees in Bharmour, 2.7 degrees in Reckong Peo. It was 3.3 degrees Celsius in Seobag and 9.3 degrees Celsius in Kasauli.
Director of Meteorological Center, Shimla, Kuldeep Srivastava said that the weather will remain clear on the next three i.e. 20, 21 and 22 November. After this, there will be a change in the weather due to the activation of western disturbance. He said that from November 23 to 25, there is a possibility of rain in the central areas and snow in the high mountain areas. There may be snowfall in the higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Chamba and Kangra districts. Apart from this, rainfall is expected at medium altitude places.
