Global leaders agree on five issues at G20 summit 2024: Leaders of countries participating in the G20 summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil discussed climate change, Ukraine-Russia war, the ongoing war in Gaza-Israel and Lebanon and many other issues. During this summit, some successes were also achieved amidst differences between many countries of the world. In this G20 summit, all the countries agreed on five major issues.

Climate change

The summit was expected to see G20 leaders reopen the stalled UN climate change agenda in Azerbaijan. But the G20’s final declaration emphasized the need to increase climate finance to trillions. But here he did not make it clear from where this money would come? “They haven’t taken action on the challenges we face,” said Mick Sheldrick, co-founder of the Global Citizens campaign group.

ukraine–russia war

The Ukraine war became a special topic of discussion at the summit. A day earlier, the US had given the green signal to long-range missiles supplied to Ukraine to attack Russian territory. Russia has responded by saying that if there is any attack on us, we are ready to retaliate. Chinese President Xi Jinping is working with Brazil to advance peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. He appealed to the G20 for help to calm the war. “We welcome all constructive initiatives supporting a comprehensive, just peace in Ukraine,” the G20 leaders said in the final declaration. Like last year’s G20 summit, it condemned the use of force by any country to occupy its territory. But here he did not mention the Russian invasion.

ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon

G20 leaders call for comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon. The declaration said that the ceasefire in Gaza should be in accordance with the UN resolution proposed by the US. It has demanded a permanent ceasefire from Hamas in exchange for the release of all hostages. There were also calls for a ceasefire in Lebanon. So that citizens can return safely to their homes on both sides of the border.

The higher the income, the higher the taxes

The idea of effectively taxing the high-income rich was endorsed at the G20 summit. However, it was also asked to include a discussion of tax principles. Gabriel Zucman, the economist chosen by Brazil’s G20 presidency to write a report on the issue, praised the historic decision.

global solidarity against hunger

Brazilian President Lula da Silva took the initiative to create global solidarity against hunger. This initiative was successfully launched before the start of this summit. Which was signed by 82 countries. The aim of this collaboration is to unify international efforts to finance the campaign against hunger. Their goal is to reach half a billion people by the end of this decade. Lula, who grew up in poverty, called it a crisis that shames humanity.
