Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the G20 summit on social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Narendra Modi said that the people-centric decisions taken at the G-20 summit in New Delhi have been taken forward under Brazil’s chairmanship.

It is very satisfying that we gave priority to the SDG goals. It is clear that One Earth, One Family, One Future is as relevant at this Summit as it was last year. The Prime Minister said in his address, in the last 10 years we have brought 25 crore people out of poverty. More than 80 crore people are being given free food. 550 million people are benefiting from the world’s largest health insurance scheme. Now 6 crore senior citizens above 70 years of age will also be able to avail the benefit of free health insurance. India is also contributing to global food security. We have recently provided humanitarian assistance to Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe. The Prime Minister said that we support Brazil’s initiative of the Global Coalition against Hunger and Poverty.

Global South hit by food, fuel and fertilizer crisis

During the address, PM Modi said, I would like to say that the countries of the Global South are most affected by the food, fuel and fertilizer crisis due to global conflicts. Therefore, our debate can only be successful if we take into account the challenges and priorities of the Global South.

PM Modi met US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G20 summit on Monday and held a brief conversation with him. This was his first visit after the US presidential elections. However, it is not known what conversation took place between the two leaders.
