Gorakhpur, 18 November (HS). Dr. Sushil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, and his research student Tahira Ansari have developed an innovative, effective solution for the effective management of pests like Diamond Back Moth (Plutella xylostella) that damage cruciferous crops like cabbage and cabbage. Sustainable and cost-effective insect culture chamber “Insect Hatching Chamber” has been developed. This patent has been registered and published in the Patent Office of the Government of India.
This new device provides a favorable breeding and rearing environment for the insects to emerge, mate and lay eggs. A wooden base, thin wooden rods, light plastic net and muslin cloth have been used in its structure. This chamber is simple to use, durable and eco-friendly, ideal for research and industrial purposes.
Features and utility-
1. Universal utility: This chamber is helpful in insect rearing, study of reproductive behavior and various experimental works.
2. Easy manufacturing: It can be easily manufactured at low cost and can be made small or large as per requirement.
3. Airy and transparent design: The use of white plastic mesh and muslin fabric makes it airy and light permeable.
4. Easy to transport: Its lightweight structure makes it convenient to move.
Benefit:
This chamber is an ideal tool for scientific research to study the behavior, development and reproduction of insects.
It helps in large scale production of insect larvae, which is useful for biological control.
This system is helpful in saving time, labor and cost as compared to traditional techniques.
conclusion:
This patented invention is a significant contribution to the management and pest research of cruciferous crops. Its simple design, cost-effectiveness and eco-friendliness make it widely useful in both industry and research sectors.
