Kathua 18 November (Hindus). The strike of sanitation workers of Municipal Council Kathua continued on Monday over their demands pending for the last 17 days. Due to which, on Monday, the sanitation workers took out a protest march in the city and raised their voice regarding their legitimate demands.
It may be noted that for the last 17 days, the sanitation workers of Municipal Council Kathua have been sitting on strike regarding their pending demands, but the district administration and the MLA of Kathua have not yet taken care of the sanitation workers. Due to which there is a lot of anger among the cleaning workers. However, civil society members and other organizations including DDC Nagari have supported the sanitation workers. He has also appealed to the UT government and the present NC government to fulfill the demands of the sanitation workers soon so that the cleanliness system of the city can become smooth again. He said that the sanitation workers have been on strike for 17 days due to which the entire city is in a heap of filth and now the danger of epidemic is also looming. But no appropriate steps are being taken by the district administration and concerned departments. It is surprising that the Municipal Council has been dissolved at present and the District Deputy Commissioner is the Chairman of the Municipal Council Kathua and no steps have been taken by him regarding cleanliness. There are huge piles of filth outside the city’s main roads, check intersections, temples, schools and government offices, but no one is taking initiative in this cleaning campaign.
The Prime Minister of the country is seen teaching awareness lessons every day under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, but perhaps his appeal is not reaching the district administration. This country is ours, the state is ours, the district is ours and this city is ours. If the sanitation workers are on strike then it is their right but why are they silent about getting photo sessions done in the name of cleanliness campaign. Those people should also come out at this time and at least get their respective wards cleaned. In this difficult time, neither any volunteers are coming out nor any leaders are coming out who conduct photo sessions on cleanliness campaign every day. Everyone is waiting for the sanitation workers’ strike to end. On the other hand, the sanitation workers have given a direct warning saying that every year they have been protesting for their pending demands, but every time they are given false assurances to end their strike. But this time their strike will continue until their legitimate demands are met.
