Mumbai: Maharashtra Police and Indian Army Intelligence (Southern Command) arrested nine Kashmiris in a joint operation in Ahilya Nagar (formerly Ahmednagar), Maharashtra. Nine rifles and 58 live cartridges were allegedly seized from these people, a police officer said today.
The officer further said that after receiving credible information that some people from Jammu and Kashmir were working in different cities of Maharashtra and carrying weapons with fake licenses, we started investigation.
The official said that as part of the investigation, letters were sent to Jammu and Kashmir authorities to verify the authenticity of the arms license and the raid was conducted after it was found to be fake. Following the raid, nine people were arrested in Ahilyanagar along with nine twelve bore rifles and 58 cartridges. All these people are natives of Rajouri, Jammu.
The arrested accused include Shabbir Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Gujjar (38), Mohammad Saleem alias Salem Gul Mohammad (32), Mohammad Safraz Nazir Hussain (24), Jahangir Zakir Hussain (28), Shahbaz Ahmed Nazir Hussain (33), Surjit Rameshchandra Singh. These include Abdul Rashid Chidiya (38), Tuhail Ahmed Mohammad Ghazia and Sher Ahmed Ghulam Hussain.
Elaborating on the case, another officer clarified that Sher Ahmed Ghulam Hussain was the mastermind of this racket and he had taken Rs 50,000 to acquire the double bore rifle and his fake license to ensure that the accused were arrested. A case has been registered under the Arms Act at Tofkhona police station in Pune and further investigation into the racket is underway.
