Property worth lakhs burnt in Jorhat fire

Jorhat (Assam), 16 November (Hindustan Reporter). Property worth lakhs of rupees was burnt to ashes in a massive fire that broke out in Macharhat, Jorhat district headquarters. Police said today that the fire broke out in front of Barnamghar in Macharhat.

Three rooms located on the upper floor of a house were completely burnt in the fire. The fire broke out on the second floor of the residence of a woman named Deepa Das. According to Deepa Das, she was washing clothes downstairs when the fire broke out.

The cause of the fire is not yet known. The fire engulfed the entire building because the upper floor of the house was covered with tarja (bamboo) rafters. Within about 10 minutes the entire house caught fire. Goods worth lakhs of rupees were burnt to ashes in the fire.

After receiving information about the fire, three vehicles of Jorhat Fire Brigade reached there and after much effort the fire was brought under control. The fire was stopped from spreading further.
