Asaduddin Owaisi: Police has issued a notice to AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who is contesting elections in Solapur, Maharashtra, on charges of giving an inflammatory speech. Owaisi was giving a speech on the stage during a rally in Solapur assembly constituency, during which the police went to the stage and gave this notice. Owaisi was campaigning for All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM)’s Solapur candidate Farooq Shabdi.
What was in the notice?
In the notice, the police has instructed Owaisi not to hurt the sentiments of any community and not to use inflammatory words in his speech. While reading the notice, the AIMIM chief was seen sitting on a chair and talking on his mobile phone. The notice did not mention any specific suggestion that Owaisi had violated the law.
He was giving a speech on Waqf Bill 2024
He is a staunch critic of the controversial Waqf Bill 2024. AIMIM welcomes Supreme Court’s directions on “bulldozer justice”. Also, the national guidelines issued for demolition of properties were considered appropriate. The Supreme Court said that officers cannot be judges, the house of an entire family cannot be demolished by convicting the accused and punishing one person.
‘Bulldozer action’
AIMIM chief accused BJP of praising ‘bulldozer action’. He said, “Suppose there are 50 houses in an area, but only one house is being demolished which is that of Abdur Rehman, the action claims, the entire area is not illegal but only his house is illegal,” he said. This is a classic example of inciting hatred.” His party has criticized all the rival parties in the Maharashtra elections and said that they have no ideology left.
