Youth are the heirs of our great civilization – Lieutenant Governor

Budgam 13 November (Hindustan Reporter) Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the convocation ceremony at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, Srinagar.

Speaking on the occasion, the Lieutenant Governor congratulated the NIFT management, faculty members, staff and graduating students. The Lieutenant Governor urged young, creative minds to address the emerging challenges of the domestic apparel and textile industry and make India the fashion capital of the world.

He said that youth are the heirs of our great civilization. I strongly believe that India’s unique cultural and historical identity and the dedication of our youth to weave magic into creative products will bring about far-reaching changes in the fashion industry.

At the convocation, the Lieutenant Governor shared the major initiatives taken under the guidance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to strengthen the entire value chain from fibre, yarn, fabric to apparel and to revive the unique cultural and artistic heritage.

He said that Jammu and Kashmir is a repository of Indian creative traditions and this is manifested in various handicrafts and handloom products. We are committed to empower our talented weavers and craftsmen and provide them with the necessary opportunities and facilities to unleash their potential.

The Lieutenant Governor called for full-fledged, meaningful, relevant initiatives in the field of design development, fashion management and fashion communication to strengthen the brand position of apparel and crafts through craft cluster projects and to support the artisans of Jammu and Kashmir and enrich the local crafts. Also appreciated the efforts of NIFT in providing education. He advised the students to spread the benefits of expertise and experience acquired at NIFT to the handicrafts and handloom industry and implement an inclusive approach to do justice to the creativity of the craftsmen for their empowerment.

He said that NIFT has emerged as a premier fashion institute of the country and is preparing professional human resources for the textile and apparel industry. Your collective objective should be to build a global brand. Your creativity, innovation, value addition and your dedication to developing the personality of your products will help make the fashion design, technology and lifestyle accessories industry competitive in the international market.

The Lieutenant Governor also paid tribute to renowned fashion designer Rohit Bal, who was born in Srinagar and who revolutionized the Indian fashion industry. The Lieutenant Governor said that their innovative and dynamic approach will inspire NIFT students to become catalysts for strong and sustainable growth in the region.
