Lucknow, 13 November (HS). Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has pledged to empower 1.25 lakh girls of council schools with financial literacy, which is targeted to be completed by December 31. This initiative aims to empower the girl child with financial knowledge and management skills so that they can become self-reliant and financially aware.
Under Mission Shakti, the Yogi government aims to provide financial education to the girls of 80 thousand Kasturba Gandhi Girls Schools (KGBV), 35 thousand PM Shri Yojana schools and 10 thousand other upper primary schools. In this campaign, which is being run with the technical support of UNICEF, efforts will be made to make girls financially capable by providing them information about savings, banking, digital payments, insurance and other financial subjects.
Teachers’ orientation work completed
To increase the effectiveness of the campaign, the work of orientation of 2200 teachers has been completed on 28 October with the help of UNICEF. There is also a plan to complete the training of 3000 nodal teachers by November 30, who will later train girls in financial literacy. After the completion of the training, the girls will be given certificates, which will certify their skills and boost their self-confidence. Minister of State for Basic Education Sandeep Singh said that this campaign is an important step towards economically empowering girls. Efforts are going on rapidly to complete the training by 31st December. This initiative of Yogi government is a big step towards the economic independence of girls by making them proficient in financial literacy.

In this training programme, girls will be exposed to various financial concepts, money management, digital payments, insurance and risk management, currency identification, and measures to prevent financial frauds. Besides, future employment opportunities will also be introduced under career awareness.

1. Ways to moderate future needs will be taught through expense management as per the total income of the family.
2. Ways to cut unnecessary expenses and increase savings will be taught.
3. The skills of making a savings plan from the income will be taught so that sufficient funds can be raised for big expenses.
4. Opening a bank account, knowledge of banking services, and the importance of saving for emergencies will be explained.
5. Girls will be provided practical experience through stories, activities and bank visits.
