Raipur, 12 November (HS). Taking action against ragging in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Smriti Medical College, Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, five students have been suspended for a month. By writing a letter on Tuesday, the families of the five students have been called to the college and asked to give a stamped affidavit that their children will not indulge in ragging in future. In the earlier action, two second year students were suspended from the college for 10 days. This case of ragging happened before Diwali.
Ragging activities were being conducted by senior students through WhatsApp groups. A WhatsApp group of junior and senior students was formed. In which senior students used to give instructions to junior students for ragging. In this, a message regarding dress code and head shaving was sent to the students in the group. Junior students sent this message to their families. The family complained about this at the local level. When the college administration did not pay attention to the complaint, the first year students and their families informed the Chief Minister’s Office and the National Medical Commission, New Delhi through social media. After this the matter reached the anti-ragging committee of the college.
After the ragging case came to light in the medical college, Deep Raj Verma and Anshu Joshi were suspended for 10 days from all classes and clinical postings on November 4. After this, on the basis of the complaint received by the Anti Ragging Cell through email on 8 November, a meeting of the Anti Ragging Committee of the college was called again on 11 November. The Dean presided over this meeting. After investigation by the committee in the meeting, the involvement of second year MBBS 2023 batch students Anshu Joshi, Akshat Jaiswal, Vikas Tandon, Gaurav Chandra Mahali and Ayush Gupta was confirmed in ragging activities. Based on this, all these five students were suspended from all classes and clinical postings for one month with immediate effect.
