According to the agency, official sources said the Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday conducted raids at several places in poll-bound Jharkhand besides West Bengal in connection with a money laundering probe related to alleged illegal influx of Bangladeshi nationals. The investigating agency has raided a total of 17 locations in the two neighboring states and started strict action.
The matter is related to infiltration and smuggling
The agency had registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in September to investigate the alleged infiltration and trafficking of some Bangladeshi women into Jharkhand, which allegedly led to the supply of black money.
Voting is to be held on 43 seats in the first phase of assembly elections on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders have accused the state government of promoting such infiltration, which has changed the demographic landscape of the tribal-dominated areas of Santhal Pargana and Kolhan regions, during the recent election campaigns. In the first phase of assembly elections, voting for 43 seats is to be held on Wednesday, while in the second phase, voting for 38 seats will be held on November 20.
